INDCP

Historical background

INDCP was founded in 1986 as a not-for-profit organization under the name of Quebec Committee on the International Classification of Impairments, Disabilities and Handicaps (QCICIDH).

Three activitsts of the disability movement participated in the creation of CQCIDIH : Maryke Muller, Mario Bolduc et Patrick Fougeyrollas. These people wanted to set up an organization which would promote the taking into account of environmental factors as producers of situations of social exclusion for people who experiment different bodies and functionalities.

Since 1997, QCICIDH has been known as the International Network on the Disability Creation Process (INDCP). This name change was meant to be the initial act launching a reorientation in the activities of QCICIDH in the wake of the last reviewing works of the ICIDH. Always concerned by terminological issues, INDCP still focuses on conceptual definitions developments but, since 2001, has principaly centered its activities on promoting people with disabilities' rights through conceptual improvement and applications.
